Garden chores in February: about pruning and pre-seeding

The garden as a great love
Angelo Dorny (b. 1990) was fascinated by gardening as a child. His grandfather taught him the first tricks of the trade, later Angelo went on to study agricultural agriculture, horticulture and garden design. Becoming a chef also appealed to him, but his greatest love remained the garden, that inexhaustible source of inspiration, fertility and tranquility.
Meanwhile, Angelo is a well-known name in Flanders and the Netherlands; he helped thousands of people make their gardening dreams come true with his website, social media, magazines, lectures and books on tomatoes, flowers, chickens and cooking with crisp vegetables.
'I find it a privilege to be able to inspire people. It's all very exciting, the first time, but don't be put off by all the jargon. I hate rules and finger-pointing. Yes, it's better to leave chemical junk on the shelves, and making sustainable choices is something I will always applaud, but the essence is that you learn about nature. The rest will follow, I am convinced.
If you see 100 bees raving on the flowers of, say, Nepeta - I'm just saying now - you will see for yourself what a poison-free garden brings about. My motto: "I'm just doing whatever.
Slowing down for a moment
That gardening is not only fun but also healing, Angelo experienced firsthand. In 2019, he had to slow down due to burnout and depression.
'I didn't go in my garden for a year. Then I started raising chickens - as a teenager I had grown special breeds for a while.
Now I had time for it again, and the love of chickens also brought back the love of gardening. Chickens may have been my salvation. That, a daily pill and the love of friends and family.
Angelo is married to Stijn, has 2 dogs and a dozen chickens and chicks. There is a pair of hedgehogs living in the garden who, along with a handful of frogs and toads, battle the snails.
Today, tens of thousands of people follow Angelo Dorny on Instagram and Facebook, a multitude are inspired by his books and popular YouTube channel. Angelo is helping you get started, too.
