Autumn is not far away, and to give our dahlias one last push, it is important to remove leaves, among other things. How and why? You will discover that below.
Risk of mold in dahlias
Dahlias are having a heyday. They are blooming like crazy and that is beautiful to look at. But to continue enjoying their flowers for as long as possible, it is important to prevent mold. It is becoming noticeably wetter, there is moisture in the air and molds such as mildew are given free rein. Mildew is not very harmful, but it can exhaust the plant and lead to fewer flowers. And fewer flowers, that of course means fewer dahlias to love.

Remove leaves from dahlias for more air circulation
To get some more air circulation between your dahlias it is important to do some leaf plucking. Not very much, because it is mainly the bottom of your plants. Remove leaves up to about 30 to 40 centimeters. This way the air can pass through and your crop dries faster after a rain shower or a misty night. And that will make the difference between a healthy or sick plant.
"Mildew is not common in healthy dahlias. But as autumn approaches, plants become exhausted."
