Decorative dahlias often have small to very large flowers whose petals, unlike, for example, ball dahlias, are not very compact together. Rather, the flowers are disc-shaped, so petals do not touch all the way to the stem and thus do not take on a ball shape. 'Café au Lait' is perhaps the best-known decorative dahlia on the market.
