Decorative dahlias often have small to very large flowers, whose petals, unlike ball dahlias for example, are not very compactly packed together. The flowers are more disc-shaped, so that the petals do not reach all the way to the stem and therefore do not take on a ball shape. 'Café au Lait' is perhaps the best-known decorative dahlia on the market.
