The garden is slowly starting to wake up this month. Here and there the spring bloomers are already sticking their heads above the ground, the snowdrops and Helleborus are blooming like crazy and by the end of the month there will already be a crocus here and there. After the long month of January, spring is now really almost in sight.
Pruning in the month of February
February is the perfect month to prune trees and shrubs in the garden. Most plants are still dormant, so you can prune them with peace of mind. The structure of the branches is also very visible now due to the lack of leaves. When it is dry and the temperatures are above freezing, you can get started in the garden.
Dead branches may be pruned away irreversibly.
Crossing branches are removed. They cause wounds to form on the tree or shrub, where diseases can more easily enter.
Oversized or overhanging branches can also be pruned. Make sure you never prune more than one third of the branch.
Cut the branches diagonally so that no water can remain on the pruning surface.
Always try to prune just above a bud.
Growing peppers and bell peppers: our tips for a successful start
Peppers and paprikas can also grow in our gardens after the Ice Saints. Start sowing early enough, because the seeds need a lot of time to germinate. Provide a warm and light spot, for example a windowsill by a window facing south.
