    Puff corn producing small, pink/red cobs. Those cobs are obviously very decorative, but also edible. Great for making popcorn. Maize needs heat to germinate. So don't start too early. Put the plants in blocks, which will help pollinate the cobs.

    Maize is a dark germinator. So the seeds may be covered with a layer of soil. Don't start sowing too early, they need heat to germinate smoothly. Pre-sow in seed trays or go straight outside when temperatures allow. Keep the soil moist, but not wet. Maize germinates after an average of 7 to 10 days, depending on conditions.
